Mendocino Soup Company

Farmers markets · Online sales · Catering

Mendocino Soup Company sells organic soups across three channels: farmers markets, online, and catering, all from one kitchen. Pricing was guesswork, waste went untracked, and a busy month looked just like a good one. Soup Studio replaced every spreadsheet. Photograph a receipt and it's costed, priced, and posted to inventory. Recipes scale with live costs. Cash, Venmo, and Squarespace roll into one P&L. Leftovers carry forward instead of getting re-cooked. Now margins, labor, and waste are all visible, and prep starts with a button.

  • Receipt to P&LPhotograph a receipt, done. Every line item captured, priced, and linked to the soups that use it.
  • Margin by productKnow which soups are worth pushing and which need attention. Not by feel, by the numbers.
  • Channel consolidationCash, Venmo, and Squarespace in one place. One view of the business, not three.
  • Inventory that builds itselfReceipts post quantities to a running ledger. Par levels flag what's getting low. Market shopping lists know what to buy and what's covered.
  • Recipes that cost themselvesPaste, photo, or URL. Recipes parsed and scaled with live ingredient costs. Rename a recipe, the soup updates with it.

Private Medical Practice

Solo respiratory therapist · Mobile-first · Clinical outreach

Solo Respiratory Therapist handling 10 to 20 patients a day from his phone. Calling, scheduling video setups, sending links, reporting outcomes. We built a mobile-first app that parses assignment emails automatically, tracks every call attempt, and books appointments into the calendar. An optional AI voice agent can place the calls outright, confirming identity, offering times, and booking. Reminders, equipment tracking, and partner reporting run themselves. Nothing falls through. Nothing needs to be remembered.

  • Hands-free intakeAssignment emails get parsed automatically. Name, cell, landline pulled from any format. No copy-paste.
  • Full audit trailEvery call attempt timestamped. Three no-answers prompts a decline. Nothing falls through.
  • AI voice agentOne tap to delegate the call. Identity confirmed, slot offered, calendar booked, or a clean handoff back to the RT.
  • Platform-awareiPhone patients get FaceTime. Android get Zoom, sent automatically about two hours before each appointment.

Ancient Future Astrology

Astrology practice · Notion-backed · Retainer clients

A working astrologer running a small, intentional practice entirely out of Notion. Chart placements, session notes, weekly reflections, shared documents all carefully built, but invisible to the people on the receiving end. We built a private, invite-only portal that uses her existing Notion databases as the source of truth. She writes where she has always written. The portal mirrors her work in the background. Magic-link invites, two-way notes, a design built to feel like an extension of the practice, not a product.

  • Notion stays the workbenchShe writes where she's always written. The portal mirrors her work in the background, so she doesn't manage two systems.
  • Two-way notesA client adds a note before a session; it lands in Notion tagged "From app." She replies once; it surfaces in their portal.
  • Designed for the practiceNo streaks, no notifications, no engagement metrics. Cormorant Garamond, antique gold, deep near-black, built to match her work, not a generic SaaS app.
  • Mobile-first, glanceableClients open the portal on a phone the night before a session. Real glyphs for placements, skeleton states, press feedback. No friction between a thought and a note.

Mendocino Today

Local listings · Events · Community submissions

Local information for Mendocino County lived on flyers, social posts, and dozens of separate business pages, with no single, current place to find what's open and on. We built a mobile-first directory that pulls events, restaurants, galleries, and services into one browsable index, with a public "Add listing" flow so businesses and locals submit their own entries rather than everything being sourced and typed in by hand. To keep it trustworthy, nothing publishes automatically. Every submission, and everything the daily scraper gathers, lands in one review queue where a team of local reviewers gives it a quick approval before it goes live.

Live · Q2 2026Purpose-Built Analytics Dashboard

Sol de Mendocino

Cannabis dispensary · POS analytics · Reorder signals

A cannabis dispensary whose sales and inventory live in its point-of-sale system, where the numbers that actually run the shop are hard to get at: which discounts quietly erode margin, and which products are about to sell out. We built a staff-only analytics dashboard over a nightly-synced copy of that data. An owner overview reads revenue, margin, traffic, and the capital sitting in inventory against last period and last year. A discounts screen shows what each promotion really costs. Reorder flags catch a fast-moving product before the shelf goes empty. Every figure traces back to the register, and margin is measured after tax, so nothing on screen flatters the shop.

  • One screen for the whole shopRevenue, margin, traffic and customers, each against the period before and the same period last year, with the capital tied up in inventory sitting beside them.
  • Discounts that show their costPer product: what it cost, what it sold for, how deep the discount went, and what that did to margin. A promotion either earns its place or it doesn't.
  • Reorder before the shelf emptiesSales velocity against stock on hand gives a days of supply estimate, so a fast mover is flagged while there is still time to order it.
  • Margin measured after taxCannabis tax sits inside the shelf price, so counting it as revenue overstates what the shop keeps. Every margin here is measured without it.
  • Every figure traces to the registerNothing is estimated or filled in. Where the source data can't support a number, the screen doesn't show one.

More in the works

Wholesale intake

There is work in build that is not shown here yet, each project unique and purpose-built like the rest. Right now that is a wholesale business bringing customer intake and tracking into one place.

How I help

Built around how your business actually runs.

No tiers. No fixed scope. Just a conversation about what's breaking your flow, and then a plan to do something about it. The categories below describe where the work tends to fall, not what you have to choose from.

  1. When off-the-shelf doesn't quite fit.

Purpose-built apps and dashboards for the specific shape of your work. Not Salesforce-with-a-twist. Software that matches the way you already think about the business.

  2. The boring work, handled in the background.

Receipts that read themselves. Calendars that get filled without anyone touching them. Reports that arrive Sunday night so Monday morning isn't a fire drill. AI for the parts of the day no one wants to do twice.

  3. Figuring out the flow before building anything.

Sometimes the answer isn't more software. It's fewer steps, clearer ownership, a single source of truth. I'll map out how the work actually moves before I write a line of code.

  4. Glue between the tools you already pay for.

Quickbooks, Square, Gmail, Calendly, the spreadsheet that runs payroll. The tools are fine. The gaps between them are where the time goes. I close the gaps.

  5. Knowing how the business is actually doing.

Live dashboards, weekly summaries, the one number that tells you whether to worry. Built around the questions you'd ask if you had the time, not the metrics a generic tool decided to show you.

Joe Flowers

Founder, QuietWork

Builder. Systems thinker.
Intentional engineering.

15+
years in tech and operations
10,000
users supported on systems built
30,000
monthly support tickets automated

I built systems for some of the largest teams in tech. Infrastructure at scale, AI automation, global operations spanning three continents. For 15 years I kept the lights on for different tech companies you've probably used or heard of.

I decided to take a career break and spent time in Thailand. Sat in temples with people who had very little and seemed genuinely at peace. Something shifted in me through that experience.

QuietWork came out of that. I know how to build these systems (really build them), and I saw an opportunity to provide my services for people & teams the tech industry usually overlooks. Small business owners drowning in admin. Individuals trying to reclaim time back to reengage with what made them want to start a business in the first place.

When the right systems are in place, you get your time back. Time for family. Time for the work only you can do. Time to actually live.

I'm based in Mendocino now, working from a cabin on the north coast. Let's start with a conversation and see if there's a way I can help.

How it works

Four steps.
No surprises.

A simple, predictable arc from first call to first launch, and beyond.

  1. 01Conversation
One call. No deck, no demo. I ask about your business and what's costing you time.
  2. 02Proposal
A short document: what I'd build, how long it takes, what it costs. Plain language.
  3. 03Build
I work. You don't have to manage me. Check-ins at agreed milestones.
  4. 04Launch & Beyond
You own what we built: the code, the documentation, the keys to everything. Most clients keep me on at a flat monthly rate for new automations and support. Some prefer to take it from there. Either works.

Pricing

Straightforward
pricing.

I've kept this simple on purpose. Most engagements land between $1,000 and $10,000, quoted upfront before any work begins, and taken half to start and half when the work is live. No surprises, no hourly meter. Complex projects may be scoped differently.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

A few things people usually want to know before reaching out.

Small businesses and individual practitioners, the kinds of operations the tech industry usually overlooks. If you're spending real hours on something repetitive or manual, there's almost always a better way.

It's using software and AI to handle the administrative work that keeps a business running but doesn't grow it. Reading receipts, chasing invoices, tracking inventory, building the weekly report. The point is for that work to happen quietly in the background instead of eating your evenings.

No. You describe the problem: the emails that pile up, the bookings that slip through, the reports you build by hand every week. I handle the rest.

Setup starts at $1,000 and covers the whole job: process mapping, the build, documentation, and training. Most engagements land between $1,000 and $10,000 depending on scope, always quoted upfront, and taken half to start and half when the work is live. There's an optional $500/month if you want me on for new work and ongoing support, starting the month after you're live, cancel anytime. No surprises, no hourly meter. More about pricing

Half of the build fee when you accept the proposal, which is what books your start date, and the other half when the work is live and handed over. If you're on the monthly, it starts the month after you go live. Nothing is due before you've seen the number, and there's no charge for the first conversation or the quote.

Everything needed to go from problem to working system: a first call, mapping how the work actually moves, the full build, plain-language documentation, and hands-on training so you and your team can run it. You own the result outright: the code, the docs, the keys to everything.

Most engagements go from the deposit to a first working automation in under two weeks. Discovery and full build typically takes two to four weeks depending on scope.

Probably. The work I do tends to live around the tools you already pay for: Gmail, QuickBooks, Square, Calendly, Notion, the spreadsheet that runs your payroll. You shouldn't have to change how you work to get the benefit.

I document everything I build. If something breaks after handoff, I'm reachable. You're working directly with Joe, not a support queue.

Not always. If the process needs fixing before it can be automated, I'll say so. The goal is to save you time, not sell you something you don't need.

Yes. Most work happens remotely. I'm based in Mendocino County but work with clients across California and beyond.
